Meet our Bands and Color Guard
The Mt. Zion High School Concert Band is the cornerstone of the Mt. Zion
Instrumental Music Program. Consisting of approximately 70 members the
ensemble performs one concert each quarter, as well as performing in
area festivals. Several individuals from this organization are selected
to participate in the Illinois Music Educator's Association
Organizations, the IHSA solo and ensemble contest, and other
miscellaneous honors groups from around the area. They rehearse
everyday during 1st hour and play a variety of advanced literature from
standards, to marches to contemporary band pieces. They were recently
named grand champions at the Festivals of Music competition in Toronto,
Canada.

The Mt. Zion High School Jazz Band under the direction of Tim Page is an auditioned group of students who are also a part of the Mt. Zion High School Concert Band. The Big Band ensemble plays a variety of contemporary music from Jazz to Rock, Latin to Bebop, and rehearses at 6:45 in the morning four days a week. They perform at every home boy's varsity basketball games as well as concerts, festivals and other events throughout Central Illinois. One of their best known annual events is the Italian Dinner held each Spring which features this band as well as its members performing in smaller groups and solo acts and acting as your hosts, waiters and waitresses for the evening.

The Mt. Zion High School Drum Line and Sousa Line are recent additions as stand-alone performing ensembles at Mt. Zion High School. While these groups have always been an active part of the larger Marching Braves, they've recently become the star entertainment attractions at the Mt. Zion basketball games, assemblies, churches, and other area events.

The Auxiliary performs with the High School Marching Band at football games and marching band competitions. The color guard performance interprets the music that the Marching Braves are playing via the synchronized spinning of flags, sabers, rifles, or other pieces of equipment, or through dance. The color guard uses different colors and styles of flags to enhance the visual effect of the marching band as a whole.
The Auxiliary is under the direction of Becky Seay.
